Approach from Chesapeake City

It is 66 nm (8 hrs) from Chesapeake City to Cape Henlopen (Breakwater Hbr).

Approach from Hampton VA

It is 111 nm (13.5 hrs) from Hampton VA to Ocean City NJ inlet (Assateague Isl). No good / safe overnight stops exist between those two points. An anchorage exists at Assateague Isl. From Assateague Isl it is 32 nm (4 hrs) to Breakwater Hbr (Lewes DE area). Nearby Rosevelt Inlet is an alternative refuge (anchorage) in a pinch.

Delaware Bay - Ocean City - Chesapeake Bay loop

Trip overview

Six hours from Old Bay to to the C & D Canal. The C & D canal is 17 nm long (2 hrs @ 8.2 kn). It is 60 nm (7 hrs @ 8.2 kn) from the C & D Canal exit to the Delaware Rvr to the mouth of the Delaware Rvr. From the mouth of the Delaware Rvr, it is 40 nm (5 hrs @ 8.2 kn) to Ocean City. From Ocean City, it is 108 nm (13 hrs) to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

It takes six hours to go from Old Bay to the C & D Canal.

The C & D canal is 17 nm long (2 hrs @ 8.2 kn). The C&D starts at 39.5231, -75.8749 up the Elk Rvr. Chesapeake City is 1/3 of the way to the Delaware Bay. About ½ distance on a branch off to the left is a marina with the Aqua Sol Restaurant on site (39.5481, -75.7047). The C&D canal exits to the Delaware at 39.5606, -75.5632.

It is 60 nm (7 hrs @ 8.2 kn) from the C & D Canal exit to the Delaware Rvr to the mouth of the Delaware Rvr. From the mouth of the Delaware Rvr, it is 40 nm (5 hrs @ 8.2 kn) to Ocean City. Whale and dolphin watching offshore, just north of Rehoboth Beach (east of ) Cape Henlopen State Park. From Ocean City, it is 108 nm (13 hrs) to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Three 40 nm legs are available between Ocean City inlet and Norfolk. It is 40 nm from Norfolk NE traveling offshore to Wreck Isl. From Wreck Isl area you travel offshore 45 nm NE to Chincoteague. From Chincoteague, travel 42 nm NE offshore to Ocean City inlet. From the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, it is 161 nm (20 hrs @ 8.2 kn) back to Old Bay (Baltimore / Patapsco).
